  7. There are three general categories of military people: active duty (full-time soldiers and sailors), reserve & guard forces (usually work a civilian job, but can be called to full-time military duty), and veterans and retirees (past members of the military).  There are 5 branches of the military:  The U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.  The Air Force is the nation's source of air and space power. The primary mission of the USAF is to fly planes, helicopters, and satellites.  The Army is the dominant land power. The Army generally moves in to an area, secures it, and instills order and values before it leaves.  The Coast Guard's mission is primarily with domestic waterways. The Coast Guard does rescues, law enforcement, drug prevention, and clears waterways.  The Marine Corps is known as the U.S.' rapid-reaction force. They are trained to fight by sea and land, and usually are the first "boots on the ground." Marines are known as the world's fiercest warriors.  The Navy accomplishes its missions primarily by sea, but also by air and land. It secures and protects the oceans around the world to create peace and stability, making the seas safe for travel and trade.

  8. Wednesday will be red, white and blue day!

  10. Today is the day we celebrate the sacrifice and valor of all the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States.  Their brave service allows us to live in the home of the free. Veterans Day is a day to set aside and honor ALL American veterans, both living and dead. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. November 11 of each year is the day that we ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country free.

  11. This week we will be celebrating Veterans all week long at RMS!  We would like to “be the change” and send a Veteran on an Honor Flight.  RMS will be collecting money, hoping to raise $600 which would pay for a veteran’s Honor Flight. Honor Flights take veterans free of charge to Washington DC to see the memorials and experience a day of honor and thanks.  The veterans are sent with a guardian who escorts them around DC. So let’s see who has the most patriotic pride RMS! The RAMS group will be taking donations in the lobby before school. Students should put their donation into their team's bucket each morning!!!  As a bonus, the team who donates the most money will receive an extra treat! So don’t forget to bring in money to support the effort at RMS to send a veteran on an Honor Flight.  We want to show them how much we appreciate all they have done for us.
